Grow Your Audience With an Effective Social Media Profile
Welcome to Part 3 of Visaggio & Co.’s series on social media best practices! You may wish to check out Part 2 if you missed it, or start at the beginning.
At this point, you should have identified which social media platforms are the best fit for your organization, and narrowed them down to a few on which you would like to focus. It is finally time to get into the social aspect of social media!
What Makes a Great Social Media Profile?
Regardless of the platform you are using, it is important that you are deliberate in the creation of your profile.
If you already have a brand guide detailing the design elements associated with your brand (if not, we can help you!), incorporate them into your page. Consistency is key in making your brand recognizable on social media. Any existing design element, especially colors and logos, should be utilized throughout your page. The ultimate goal is for your brand to be recognizable everywhere that it appears. Vaer Watches is a great example of this, with distinguishing elements present on both their Instagram and Facebook pages.
Take some time to play around with different design ideas for your pages. The extra time spent investing in a streamlined design will be worth the effort.
Let’s say your pages are complete and beautifully designed, and you are ready to start posting. What now? It can be difficult to decide what content is worth posting at first, but it will become easier as time goes on.
When it comes to building an audience, the most important rule is to give users a reason to keep coming back. You may drive a few meaningful interactions from those stopping in once or twice, but true brand loyalty and awareness come from keeping an engaged audience over time.
Consider what you want to provide to those visiting your page, and what the average user will take away. Do you want to update your audience on upcoming sales? Get people excited to visit your
venue? Provide educational resources? Incentivized users will follow and engage with your page to receive whatever you are providing, and in return their brand loyalty and awareness will grow.
The Georgia Aquarium Instagram account is a great example: Audience members receive stunning content and education snippets, and in return ticket sales and donations are driven upward.
These are only the absolute basics of a very complex topic. Creating a new page on any social platform is challenging and may require a lot of trial and error. Don’t be discouraged if it takes time to build a following; Remember, consistency is key!
